Major projects are often an indicator of the direction of industry. They also reveal information about the location of growth areas, the type of work that would be out for public tender, and jobs that are likely to open up in those areas. Essential Services Commission (ESC), which reviews water corporations’ price submission on regular intervals, also looks at major capital projects in its assessment of proposed water prices, suggesting there is a direct link between major capital projects and the rates we pay for our water.
A few years ago, I collated a list of top 15 major projects which Melbourne Water had indicated it planned on delivering in their ESC Price Submission for 2021/26. This became one of my most viewed articles that year. This year, I am taking this a step further and creating a register dedicated to Major Projects in the Water Industry. Overtime, this list will expand to cover other water corporation in Victoria.
